The Essential elements of Certified Organic Meat

• The animals must be fed from crops that are certified organic. Among other regulations, the land cannot have been sprayed with synthetic pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers for a minimum of three years. 

• Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO's) are strictly forbidden. 
• Antibiotics and growth-hormones are strictly banned. 

• Animal by-products are strictly banned in the animals feed. 

• A thorough audit trail is required to trace all certified organic products to the farm of origin. 

• Soil and water quality must be monitored at all times to ensure contamination has not taken place.

• Organic processors and producers must maintain and update an organic processing and handling plan.
